I Walk By Faith

Today, in select theaters, the movie "Meet the Mormons" opens. Here in Tucson it is showing at the Century Park Place Mall, on Broadway Blvd.  I'm excited to see it.

I admit I'm not the best at sharing my faith.  My children are better than me.  It is something I hope to become better at. Just writing this post about my faith, family, and life is a HUGE stretch for me!  I am completely out of my comfort zone. But with stretch we become strong.  That is what I keep telling myself.

I have been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all my life.  I was born to two great parents who have always loved and supported me.  I have a younger brother who is smart and funny.  I have always been a little jealous of his quick whit and humor.

When I turned twelve my life changed forever.  My parents divorced and shortly after that my mom, brother, and I moved to the state of Washington.  I left everyone and everything I knew in Tucson, Arizona.  Looking back I don't know why I wasn't more TERRIFIED!!! I was leaving EVERYTHING I knew and trusted.  But, for some reason I was at peace.  I know it was not by chance I felt this peace, it was much more.  Even with my world turned upside down, I had been taught, and I knew for myself that I was a daughter of God.  He was aware of what we going on in my life.  Thankfully I never felt alone.  Each night I remember going to sleep listening to a song, "I Walk By Faith."  The words are:

I will prepare to make and keep sacred covenants,
Seek promised blessings of the priesthood thru obedience,
Live my life to claim the blessing sweet of exaltation,
My testimony growing each new day.
I walk by faith, a daughter of heav'nly parents.
Divine am I in nature by inheritance.
The Spirit whispers of my mission, my individual worth,
So I seek for precious knowledge, for learning, and for growth.
I understand the meaning of accountability;
Ev’ry choice for good or ill is my responsibility.
I want to build the kingdom and good works is the key.
By doing what I know is right I show integrity.
I walk by faith, a daughter of heav’nly parents.
Divine am I in nature by inheritance.
And someday when God has proven me
I’ll see Him face to face.
But just for here and now I walk by faith.
Yes, just for here and now I walk by faith.

These words helped me through this trying time in my life.  I know this sounds CRAZY, but I'm now thankful for this trial.  It has shaped me into the person I am today.  I loved the eight years I lived in Richland, Washington.  I made wonderful friends and had amazing family members who lived there who loved and supported me. Through this trial I have learned that no family is perfect.  We all have our trials, but we are all sons and daughters of worth to our Heavenly Father.

"All human beings--Male and female--are created in the image of God.  Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny."
(Excerpt from The Family: A Proclamation to the World, 1995
